Board chair: Focus on CPA’s mission, not politics

“LEAVE politics at the door,” Commonwealth Ports Authority Board Chairwoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds told the members following the re-election of board officers on Thursday last week.

The board unanimously re-elected King-Hinds as chair, Roman T. Tudela as vice chair, and former Sen. Thomas “Kiyu” P. Villagomez as secretary.

Also re-elected are the committee chairs: Rota’s Barrie Toves, airport facilities; former Sen. Pete P. Reyes, seaport facilities; former Rep. Ramon Tebuteb, financial affairs; and Joseph Diaz, personnel affairs.

In her remarks, King-Hinds said: “Although we are all political appointees, as board chair, my rule is leave your personal politics at the door and put the mission of the agency first.”

She said CNMI ports “are the most critical infrastructure for our economy.”

“Our focus must be solely on working towards improving the infrastructure to better facilitate the growth of our tourism industry,” she added. “If we are not talking about that, or working towards that goal, then we have no business serving on this board,” King-Hinds said.

“I am proud to say that this board has been doing just that. I thank the board for choosing me to be the team captain for another year and I look forward to all of us working together to fulfill the mandates of our mission,” she added.

In his report, CPA Executive Director Christopher Tenorio reminded the board that the CNMI is hosting the Association of Pacific Ports Conference from Sept. 26 to 28, 2022. He said they will host a dinner reception on Monday at Laly 4 Beach in Chalan Kanoa.
