(CUC) — The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation is pleased to announce that through the efforts of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, and in coordination with the Department of Finance, a utility stimulus in the form of a $300 credit has been granted by the governor’s office to provide continued relief to the current fuel crisis.
All active residential electric accounts will receive a utility stimulus credit of $300 in August, September and October of 2022.
The utility stimulus credits for August had been uploaded to approximately 12,000 of CUC’s eligible residential accounts as of Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022.
CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho is grateful to the governor’s office and the Department of Finance for providing such relief to CUC customers since the high cost of fuel has significantly impacted the people of the CNMI. The timing of the relief is felt as the priority of most households at this time is getting the kids back to school.
CUC’s leadership continues to look for additional solutions for long-term relief including educating customers on energy conservation to help reduce electric bills, replacing existing engines with more efficient technology, and advancing CUC’s renewable energy initiative for a more sustainable CNMI.
Customers still struggling with their bills are encouraged to visit one of the CUC Customer Centers on Saipan, Rota and Tinian where representatives are available for consultation and assistance. For assistance over the phone, please call (670) 664-4282 to speak with a CUC representative.
