Mayor’s office assigns house numbers to over 3,000 Saipan residents

THE Saipan Mayor’s Office has assigned residential house numbers to over 3,000 Saipan residents.

The official house numbering begins at Agingan Point in Koblerville and then to the northern part of the island.

Along with the house number assignment, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang also provided each resident a copy of “Guide on Installing Your House Street Number.”

“We encourage you to follow the guide to ensure that our island’s street addressing system is uniform and clearly visible on your home from the street in front of your home,” the mayor said.

The special assistant to the mayor, Henry S. Hofschneider, is encouraging those who were already issued house numbers to purchase their own number designs from stores. The mayor’s office, he said, bought 10,000 numbers but these were enough only for about 800 residential houses.

Hofschneider said each house number is comprised of three to five digits. The first residence on Agingan Point, for example, was assigned a house number comprised of three digits. Currently, the Saipan mayor’s office is already assigning house numbers on Capital Hill, and the most recent house number had five digits.

In purchasing numbers, Hofschneider also encourages residents to use the guidebook provided by the mayor’s office in determining the numbers’ font size, font style, color and placement.

Apatang said “street addressing has many benefits — from easily identifying your home in case of an emergency, to mail delivery right to your doorsteps, which we hope the U.S. Postal Service and other couriers will be implementing soon.”

He added, “Your cooperation in complying with the guide will make our island’s home addressing system a success and more importantly accomplish the results it is intended to do.”
