FOR fans of “Better Call Saul” eagerly awaiting the final episode of the show, you might be interested in watching out for former Saipan resident Ian A. Hudson who makes an appearance towards the end of the episode, during the bus scene. Originally he had a speaking part there but it was cut.
Ian who lived on Saipan as a young boy, is now an aspiring actor, musician, writer and film maker living in New Mexico.
He has only been pursuing acting a few years but has already appeared in numerous Albuquerque-based films and TV shows, such as the Jonny Depp film, “Lone Ranger” — he’s even in one of the movie posters. “Longmire” viewers might remember him giving Lou Diamond Phillips a pounding, and the now defunct film “Rust,” which shut down due to the fatal shooting of the films cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins by Alec Baldwin. Ian had an unnerving wake-up call when he realized that the same production pistols were used on him during a scene shot days prior.
At this point in his career he has an agent and is landing small speaking roles. Success in the entertainment industry has as much to do with luck as is does talent and perseverance. Ian is confident that with having so many fingers in the pie, luck is not far off.
He enjoys coming back to his old stomping ground of Saipan and has returned several times since leaving when he was a young boy. He usually joins his mother, Joanne Eakin, who has been doing archaeology here for 25 years. They were both last here in June when Joanne came to present the results of the DNA research her and her coauthor, Roz Hunter-Anderson did, which traced the Chamorro lineage back to Indonesia.
