Kilili: Grand jury subpoenas ‘very serious’

THE Federal Bureau of Investigation’s serving grand jury subpoenas to two cabinet members and a senator “is [a] very serious” matter, said U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan.

Last week, Department of Public Lands Secretary Sixto K. Igisomar, Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig and Sen. Victor B. Hocog were served subpoenas to appear before the federal grand jury.

Igisomar told Variety that the FBI asked questions pertaining to his duties and responsibilities as the Commerce secretary and as a member of the Senate in the 19th and 20th Legislatures.

House Floor Leader Ralph N. Yumul, for his part, said the FBI asked him questions about Public Law 18-56, which legalized casino gaming on Saipan in 2014. He said he voted no on the measure.

In an interview on Thursday, Kilili said these latest developments “show us that there are some things that are going on that we still don’t know fully.”

Variety learned that those who had been subpoenaed were ordered to appear before the grand jury next week.
