Zen Homes Apartment’s solar power is ready

ZEN Homes Apartment in Gualo Rai has completed the installation of a photovoltaic system which aims to help tenants reduce their power costs.

Renato S. Abarquez, the mechanical and electrical manager of the 44-unit, low-cost semi-furnished apartment building, said its solar power system can produce 132 kilowatts and is adequate to provide each of the units an average of three kilowatts of power.

However, he said the apartment’s photovoltaic system still requires a net metering equipment that only Commonwealth Utilities Corp. can provide.

He said to fully activate the solar power system, they still need to hook up to the CUC grid.

Depending on each tenant’s consumption of power, Zen Homes’ solar power will supplement the power provided by CUC, he added.

At nighttime, when there is no sunlight, the apartment units will get their power from CUC. The apartment’s solar power system includes inverters that will supply each unit with solar power during the daytime.

Abarquez said they are still waiting to hear from CUC about their net metering application.
