GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres on Thursday last week renominated Commonwealth Election Commission Board Chairman Jesus I. Sablan to serve another four-year term.
Sablan’s current term is expiring on July 21. If his renomination is confirmed by the Senate, he will serve through July 21, 2026.
In his letter to Sablan, the governor said, “I am confident that you are qualified and you will continue to devote your time and efforts to represent the interest of our community in this important board.”
In a separate letter to Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider, the governor said he is confident that Sablan will continue to be an asset “on this important commission.” Torres respectfully requests the Senate’s favorable action on Sablan’s renomination.
Hofschneider referred the renomination to the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation Committee chairman, Sen. Frank Q. Cruz.
Hofschneider said the committee’s timely action on the renomination is greatly appreciated.
In March, the governor nominated Department of Public Safety Police Lt. Jesus C. Cepeda to fill the seat vacated by Proserpina Magofna who has relocated to the U.S. mainland. The Senate has already confirmed Cepeda’s nomination.
The other members of the nine-seat election commission are vice chair Doris Ann Aldan-Atalig of Saipan, Lelanie I. Manglona and Esther Yatar both of Rota, and John Diego Attao of Tinian.
