MILITARY veteran and retired Police Officer Edward Castro Barcinas was accompanied by his family, friends and supporters to the Commonwealth Election Commission where he filed his independent candidacy on Thursday for Rota’s lone seat in the House of Representatives.
Also joining him to show their support were independent Saipan senatorial candidates Rep. Corina Magofna and former Rep. Andrew Salas as well as independent House candidates Marissa Flores and Raymond U. Palacios.
Barcinas’s uncle, former Rep. Donald Barcinas, also came to show his support.
A fellow combat veteran, JV Palacios flew all the way from Guam to show his support for Edward C. Barcinas.
A retired U.S. Army specialist, Palacios said, “Ed…has fought for all these things that everybody now is trying to promote — culture, land, heritage and traditional beliefs, and the need to pass them on so the future generations can also perform those things. And there’s also sacrifices that he has already done as a combat veteran.”
Edward Barcinas, Palacios added, “has fought for Republicans, he has fought for Democrats, he has fought for independents — he has fought for every single citizen regardless of political party, regardless of ethnicity. He has fought for Chamorros, Refaluwasch, Filipinos, and everybody who calls the CNMI home because this is his home.”
Edward Barcinas said he wants to give the best leadership to the people of Rota.
“I want to make sure, that I will continue to protect the culture of the people of Rota, the way of life of the people of Rota — everything. I want to ensure that the generations to come will continue to get what I have fought for.”
