Over 300 attend health fair

Event coordinator Trina Sablan said it was the first time the event became a “big health fair.”

Last year’s event — the diabetes awareness fair — was held inside the 4-H Club Building in Susupe.

The fair this year was based on all the ideas from private organizations and government agencies.

At least 346 “passports” were issued to participants who went to different stations where they received information and services.

The registration booth manned by members of Kagman High School’s National Honor Society handed giveaway items.

Besides the bigger crowd, the Family Health and Wellness Fair also had more raffles, more incentives and more fun and entertainment.

Over 100 of the participants had their glucose tested by students of Emmanuel College.

Student volunteer Jian Teng said most of the results were not conclusive because many  already had breakfast before they got tested.

The highest blood sugar she encountered belonged to two women whom she advised  to see a doctor immediately.

The Department of Public Health with the assistance of Northern Marianas College provided free anti-flu vaccines to members of the public.

“We decided to make this fair not only educational but also fun and interactive between the exhibitors and community,” Sablan said.
