Lack of funding is the primary reason why purchase orders remain on hold and water projects have been stalled, according to Bruce Megarr, CUC deputy director for water and wastewater.
He could not set a timetable to address the problem but “we do our best to prioritize the needs as best as we can given the revenue that’s coming in.”
He told Variety that they have already reviewed all pending repair project orders with the procurement officer.
Earlier, CUC Executive Director Antonio Muna said they will resolve water issues without increasing the rate.
“We will rehabilitate the system but we will not burden customers by increasing the rate,” he added.
On Wednesday, Megarr said repair work was undertaken for the broken water line on Navy Hills.
CUC had to coordinate with other utility firms with underground structures in the area.
Some areas on Capitol Hill and Sadog Tasi will experience low water pressure, he said.
According to its recent water bulletin, CUC’s water division has an ongoing leak detection operation which may cut the water supply to some areas of Afetnas, Koblerville and San Antonio.
Eleven wells remained not operational as of yesterday, resulting in low water pressure in some parts of Koblerville, Navy Hill, Garapan, Fina Sisu, Kanat Tabla, Middle Road, Beach Road, Oleai, Chalan Kanoa, Susupe, As Matuis, San Roque and Tanapag.
