Scholarship applicants must follow the same requirements as the Educational Assistance Program Rules and Regulations. Applications must be submitted by Dec. 15, 2008 to the CNMI Scholarship Office. The funds will be available on a first-come, first served basis, which means that the first 312 applicants who submit completed applications packets — class schedule may be submitted at a later date — and who meet statutory requirements will be awarded.
Part-time applicants must submit the following to the CNMI Scholarship Office:
• 2008-2009 application by Dec. 15, 2008
• Most recent official transcript
• Copy of passport and/or birth certificate with valid picture ID
• Acceptance Letter
• Provide proof of CNMI Residency for 2006 and 2007
• Submit Employment Verification showing full time employment in public or private sector
• Must be enrolled for 6-11 credits and maintain the same number of credits
• Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale
Applicants have until Feb. 28, 2009 to submit supporting documents. But once again, it is on a first come first serve basis, so applicants are encouraged to complete their application packet as soon as possible.
Copies of the application form, the rules and regulations, and the memorandum of agreement can be downloaded by logging on to www.cnmischolarship.com, obtained from the CNMI Scholarship Office or can be downloaded from NMC’s Web site at www.nmcnet.edu.

THE United Workers Movement, NMI organized a meeting on Sunday for FAS citizens and their immediate relatives, according to a media release from the group.
The critical issues discussed during the meeting are the following:
• The proposed amendments on CNMI immigration system allowing for two year permit for some categories do not include IRs of FAS citizens. The effective date of the proposed amendments is Jan. 1, 2009. U.S. P.L. 110-229, or what is known as the federalization law, provides that the entry permit will be valid until it expires from June 1, 2009 or two years whichever is shorter.
A two-year permit will give an additional year for the immediate relatives to join the workforce and be part of CNMI only guest workers program or until a political solution is reached, if any.
• Petition the FAS governments to waive across the board the five-year residency requirement for those IRs who are already on CNMI prior to June 1, 2009 so they can gain FAS citizenship.
Ask the Department of Homeland Security to give consideration to the IRs of FAS citizens
FAS citizens should participate in the efforts to ask the CNMI government to include their IRs in the categories which will allow two-year permit and in seeking a political status for their IRs. It is estimated that there are 300 FAS citizens who are married to an alien spouse.
As part of the resolution, the group launched a signature campaign that will support the petitions to CNMI Division of Immigration and the FAS governments. Deadline to submit petition to the CNMI Division of Immigration is Nov. 24, 2008.
FAS citizens who are interested to join may contact Rabby Syed at 285-3306 or Irene Tantiado at 285-7717 or may drop by Winchell’s Garapan from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every night until Nov. 23.

Nov. 27 is Feed Saipan Thursday
(Office of the Saipan Mayor) — Mayor Juan B. Tudela will sign a proclamation on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at his office to designate Nov. 27 as “Feed Saipan Thursday” in the Municipality of Saipan.
Traditionally during this time of year, Tudela solicits food and clothing donations that will be turned over to Karidat Social Services to remember the homeless, hungry and the needy.
Powdered and liquid milk are highly appreciated.
Tudela also encourages Saipan residents to fast for two-full meals on this day — money set aside can be donated to Karidat to assist our needy residents.
All food and clothing donations can be delivered to the Saipan Mayor’s Office in San Antonio on or before Nov. 27.
For more information regarding donations, call Tony A. Benavente at 234-6208 or 6280.
