Ballet concert a big hit

Rudina, a multi-awarded ballerina who had performed in Czechia, Croatia, Ireland, Germany, China and Brazil, played the role of Odette, the princess turned into a swan by an evil curse of a sorcerer.

Nasadovich, a multi-awarded ballet soloist who had also performed in different countries all over the world, played the role of Prince Siegfriend, the other major character in the 133-year-old ballet.

With Glushko’s young ballerinas dressed in white and moving like tiny swans gracefully with their ballet shoes, the two visiting dancers gave life to the classic love tale.

“It’s beautiful and worth watching,” said Rosalyn Quintanilla who came to watch her niece perform.

She said it was her first time to see a ballet concert and didn’t realize that the dancers were actually interpreting a story.

Jenny Tengco, who came with Quintanilla, said she admired the ballet dancers.

“They are very good and well disciplined,” she added.

The Swan Lake Ballet and Concert of International Ballet Stars is the brain-child of Anna Glushko.

“We’re very happy with the result. It was very successful,” she told the Variety after the show.

Dr. Gene Sylvester Eagle-Oden, who was among the major sponsors of the show, said they are very thankful to the parents and the members of the community.

“We’re elated. The outpouring of support from the community is just overwhelming,” he said. “This is a real treasure.”

Students of the Yang Ballet Theater and the Ko Eun Kyung Ballet Academy in Seoul, South Korea also entertained the audience with their graceful ballet dance.

Ken Imaya, the father of nine-year-old Sakura, one of Glushko’s students, was among parents who photographed and videotaped the event.

Imaya said his only daughter has been studying ballet with Glushko for five years now.

“She used to be very shy but now she’s not. Ballet gave her a lot of confidence and a sense of team work. It is a very good experience for her,” said Imaya.
