This position will be filled for two years only, Muna said.
The deputy director, he added, must have a thorough knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and practices as applied to planning, design, cost estimating, construction, installation, and operation.
He must be knowledgeable in the operation of a wide variety of utility facilities including power generation, and alternative/renewable energy.
In his letter to the governor, Muna said an applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, and 10 years of engineering experience which include the responsibility for supervising an engineering section or utility division and regularly directing the work of other professional engineers.
CUC is determined to produce sufficient and reliable power after the Aggreko International Project’s contract expires in Sept. 2009, he added,
According to Muna, additional funding is necessary for the rehabilitation of Power Plant 1.
He said CUC wants the plant to produce 38.5 megawatts by Sept. 30, 2009 and 41 megawatts by Dec. 31, 2009.
But the Georgetowm Consulting Group, in its power structuring rate report, said there is almost a 100 percent chance that the Aggreko contract, which costs CUC over $500,000 a month, will need to be extended.
If the rehabilitation of the engines succeed, the total power produce by CUC will be 54 megawatts by Sept. 30. 2009.
This figure includes the power generated by Power Plant 4, which is run by Pacific Marine and Industrial Co.
Muna earlier requested the governor for additional capital improvement project funding of $3.8 million for the rehabilitation of Power Plant 1.
The total rehabilitation cost is $5.48 million which includes $800,000 for labor; $4,088,503 for parts and materials; and $596,420 for equipment, tools and instrument.
