Paseo Christmas tree decorating contest awarding tonight

The contest, which drew the participation of 13 private and public schools in the CNMI, brought to the forefront the ingenuity of the students and teachers in fashioning decorations from recycled materials like water bottles, tins and cans, styrofoam, plastics and other items.

At stake are $3,000 for the first prize winner while the second and third placers will take home $2,000 and $1,000.

Consolation prizes of $500 will also be given out.

The prizes came from education tax credit donations.

Misako Kamata, chief executive officer and director of Paseo De Marianas Promoters Inc., is inviting everyone to take part in the festivities at the Paseo De Marianas.

The Christmas tree decoration contest kicked off on Dec. 3 and the judging was conducted on the following day.

Kamata said the program will start at 5:30 p.m.

“In the spirit of friendship please come and celebrate with us and the children of the Marianas the joy of the holiday season as it approaches,” Kamata said.

This year’s theme is “A Green Christmas for the Children of the Marianas.”

Paseo de Marianas Promoters Inc. coordinator Sonia Siwa earlier said this year’s event drew a bigger crowd compared to the past years.

Vying for the prizes are students from San Antonio Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, Grace Christian Academy, Tanapag Elementary School, Saipan Community School, Oleai Elementary School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School, Joshua Generation International Academy, Gregorio T.
