Letter to the Editor: About the homestead moratorium on Saipan

The DPL secretary continues to manage and dispose public lands on his own discretion without an advisory board as provided in Public 15-2 after the abolishment of MPLA.

Taotao Tano states that the administration’s statements of costly development of infrastructure for new homestead sites are contradictory due to the fact that current homestead infrastructure development from Dandan all the way to Kagman’s 1,2,3, is without adequate sewer infrastructure and has low water pressure.

The original appropriated funding for such development appropriations continue to be politically reprogrammed for pet projects.

The governor and his DPL secretary are too busy concentrating in giving tax breaks to Kumho-Asiana and Laolao Bay Golf Resort. They are reserving public lands for their foreign investors and want us, the Northern Marianas descent Chamorros and Carolinians people of the land, to  hand over on a silver platter authorization to land ownership to foreign investors. This is a blatant disregard and disrespect to  the people of the land, Chamorros and Carolinians.

All public lands in the Northern Mariana Islands belong collectively to the people of the commonwealth who are of Northern Marianas descent and it is intended that the management, use and disposition of public lands should ultimately benefit the people of the commonwealth who are Northern Marianas descent.
