CPA official wants harbor boats, equipment monitored

Benigno M. Sablan, in a memorandum to CPA Executive Director Efrain Camacho, expressed concern about the existing procedures in equipment maintenance at seaport facilities.

“It has come to my attention that one of the harbor patrol boats is currently out of service,” Sablan said. “I want to emphasize the importance of maintaining this piece of equipment and other CPA equipment and property for that matter, so as to sustain its life expectancy and not have it break down abruptly due to negligence or irresponsible handling.”

He asked Camacho to submit a status report on the condition of the harbor patrol boats and how they are being utilized.

The operators, Sablan added, should maintain responsible care and scheduled maintenance of the harbor patrol boats.

“I emphasize that CPA does not have the money to spend on unnecessary repairs that may be avoided if the patrol boats are properly maintained and operated on a regular basis,” Sablan said.

He stressed the importance of proper care and handling, preventive maintenance and accountability in the use of seaport boats and equipment.
