Rodriquez Jonas Suka, 42, was hit by a white Lexus operated by Chang Eon Ahn near Marianas High School at around 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 20, according to Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro.
Ogumoro added that the Lexus immediately stopped on the outer northbound lane after hitting the pedestrian, but a few seconds later, a blue Toyota Echo traveling on the outer northbound lane also hit the victim who was already lying within the vehicle’s lane.
The Toyota Echo was operated by 34-year-old Yiming Xiong.
The Toyota Echo stopped north of the victim.
Ogumoro said traffic officers and medics immediately responded to the scene.
Medics immediately transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was pronounced dead upon arrival at 10:26 p.m.
Ogumoro said speed was not a factor in this incident.
There was no sign of alcohol detected in the drivers of both vehicles, but investigators have yet to determine whether the victim was drinking alcohol before the incident.
The weather was clear and the road surface, including the shoulder, was dry.
Ogumoro said no one was cited in this case.
The Lexus suffered moderate damage underneath its left front portion while the Toyota Echo suffered minor damage underneath its left front portion.
The case is still under investigation.
Correction
Yesterday’s page 2 story titled “Man Arrested for Obstructing Justice, Resisting Arrest” incorrectly stated that police hit the suspect with a club.
