Volunteers needed for Beach Pathway solar and water recycling restroom demonstration project

To address this very basic human need, the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, Marianas Resource Conservation and Development Council in partnership with the CNMI government seeks expert volunteer assistance to complete an important project: the Saipan Beach Pathway Solar Restroom Facility.

During the planning process, representatives of the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation and Department of Public Works’ Energy Division suggested the construction of a solar power and water conserving restroom to increase public awareness of the Beach Road sewer line, the importance of water conservation and to provide a needed restroom for the public.

The selection of the site for this conservation project, along the Saipan Beach road pathway, was the logical first choice as there is no public facility along this pathway.

Other local CNMI organizations assisting in this project were the Friends of Saipan Beach Pathway, the CNMI governor’s office, Department of Lands and Natural Resources’ Division of Parks and Recreation and DPW’s Technical Services Division also supported the project.

The CNMI Department of Public Works through the Energy Division Grant program funded this project.

Final construction of the Beach Pathway Solar Restroom Facility was suspended in May 2006.

All that remains to open this facility is to install the hook up to the Beach Road sewer line.

The MRC&D Council seeks the Saipan community’s support with donated labor to finish this important project and open the Beach Pathway Solar Restroom facility.

The Saipan Solar Restroom facility is an important project, one that will provide an example of how modern technology can be used to address a very basic human need while conserving energy and water.

Further, this project is an example of how other public facilities can help to conserve and to protect the CNMI’s fragile natural resources.

If you are a construction firm or contractor with experience in installing waste-water systems, the Beach Pathway Solar Restroom Facility needs your expert support!
