RAMON “RB” Blas Camacho said he cares for the municipality and its residents.

An independent candidate for Saipan mayor, Camacho visited homes in Dandan on Tuesday to meet with residents and listen to their concerns.
If elected as mayor, Camacho said, “I have to be open-minded to the concerns of the residents in each village.”
He added, “One of my responsibilities if I become mayor is to go out there in the community and listen to the concerns of the residents…because I cannot just stay in the office without getting the input of the community.”
He said he is running on a platform of “personalizing village issues, through dialogues and community meetings.”
In Dandan, Camacho said among the concerns of residents are speed bumps and stray dogs.
“Residents in Dandan told me about the need for speed bumps on the roads — that is a very legitimate concern,” he added.
As for stray dogs, Camacho believes that they are pets.
“If elected, I would work closely with the pet owners. This will reduce the use of manpower to chase stray dogs in the villages. I can use the manpower in other critical areas,” he added.
A lifelong farmer and a retired police major, Camacho is also the former chairman of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council and the CNMI Parole Board.
Also running for mayor are Republican Rep. Joseph Leepan Tenorio Guerrero and Democratic Rep. Richard Tudela Lizama.
The current mayor, David M. Apatang, has already served two terms and can no longer seek re-election.
