Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to two Saipan children

Arjay is an energetic and bright little boy who lights up any room with his smile.

When Arjay was first referred to the Foundation, he knew immediately what he wanted for his wish, and did not hesitate to say he wished to go to Disneyland and meet Mickey Mouse.

Plans were made to send Arjay and his family to Tokyo Disneyland.

Foundation board member Kathryn Barry worked closely with the family, the Guam chapter and the Japan chapter to plan a memorable trip.

When asked to recall his most memorable moment of the wish, Arjay simply stated “Seeing Mickey Mouse, and Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck and Goofy,” then proceeded to name all the Disney characters.

Upon conclusion of Arjay’s wish, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Guam Executive Director Victor Camacho traveled to Saipan to grant the wish of 15-year-old Oliver San Nicolas.

Oliver wished for an X-Box 360 and was granted his wish at a lunch held at Micro Beach in Garapan.

Through support from Gamestop and numerous volunteers, Oliver received his wish complete with games and accessories.

He also received a complimentary cellular phone from IT&E and was a special guest at Trench Tech’s Rights of Passage held on Jan. 24 in Saipan.

Camacho stated: “These wishes bring together the business community, the volunteers and the islands of the Marianas in general. Despite all the economic hardships we are all facing, people genuinely want to help these kids, and businesses and individuals continue to support in whatever way they can. For these kids facing medical hardships, we’ll do what we can to bring smiles to their faces.”

These wishes were made possible by support from: Gamestop, IT&E, Trench Tech, Herman’s Modern Bakery, Hyatt Regency Saipan, JWS, Japan Consulate Office, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Japan and the Saipan volunteer team from Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

The Guam chapter services the islands of Guam and the Northern Marianas.
