“We are providing immediate assistance of $50,000 and are assessing a further appropriate response. These funds will go to an appropriate non-governmental organization but we will continue to coordinate with the interim government regarding any future response” U.S. Ambassador to Fiji Steven McGann said.
The provision of humanitarian assistance is a reflection of the goodwill of the American people toward the people of Fiji, he said.
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to those who have lost loved ones and to the thousands of evacuees who have been displaced from their homes. We stand in solidarity with Fiji in its time of need,” he said.
