New Palau cabinet lineup will be announced this week

Toribiong, in a press conference, said the list of the nominees has already been sent to the Senate.

Under the Constitution, he added, the president must seek the “advise and consent” of the Senate when appointing cabinet members.By transmitting the list of the nominees to the Senate first, he said, the appointees will be saved from embarrassment if not confirmed by the senators.Toribiong, however, believes there  is a “good chance” that his appointees will be confirmed by the Senate.The other positions in his new administration will be filled in the next 10 days, he said on Thursday.These include the post of the attorney general, the special prosecutor and the public auditor.Toribiong at the same time said he will use the vice president’s office at the Capitol in Melekeok as his new office while Vice President Kerai Mariur holds office at the Ministry of Finance.The president’s office is undergoing renovations.
