Another payless Friday for IPI employees

IMPERIAL Pacific International will not be able to pay its remaining employees on Friday, June 17.

In a memorandum on Thursday, IPI informed its “active” employees that the payroll for May 30 to June 12 pay period will be delayed “until further notice.”

“We send our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences that this continues to cause you,” the memo added.

But IPI was able to release three previous paychecks because the South Korean IH Group “provided” the needed funds, Variety was told.

Variety also learned that IPI has 13 remaining employees.

Of this number, 11 are security guards assigned to the IPI hotel-casino in Garapan and its other remaining property on island. Two are administrative staffers.

Three security guards were furloughed last month.

In a notice of furlough dated May 18, 2022, the IPI manager said, “We regret that your position is now included in the extended furloughs effective from the date of this notice.”

“The temporary, unpaid leave of absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic continues indefinitely. IPI will announce changes related to this notice period when applicable,” the IPI notice stated.

“It is important to note that your employment continues to be at-will and nothing in this notice or other furlough communications is intended as an express or implied contract. If you find alternate employment during this period and do not intent to return to work at IPI, please notify Human Resources immediately of your voluntary resignation.”

As for the 17 construction workers tasked to dismantle the tower cranes, Variety learned that they are no longer with IPI. Their team leader, Jess Aquiningoc, resigned last month.

But all of them were paid their salaries for the last three pay periods, IPI said.
