In case against governor, court to hear all motions on June 30

IN the criminal case against Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Superior Court Judge Pro Tem Alberto A. Tolentino has taken off the calendar the trial scheduling conference set for July 5, 2022, saying that the hearing on all motions filed by the parties “shall be heard on June 30, 2022 at 9 a.m.”

The judge said a status conference will be set seven days after the court has rendered its decision and order on the motions.

At a hearing on June 21, 2022, the court “deferred to the parties to identify which motions will proceed with oral arguments.”

The governor was represented by attorneys Victorino Torres and Matthew Holley while the Office of the Attorney General, which is prosecuting the case, was represented by Chief Solicitor J. Robert Glass Jr. and Assistant Attorney General Steven Kessell.

The AG’s office has charged the governor with 12 counts of misconduct in public office and one count of theft relating to the issuance of airline tickets for business class, first class, or other premium class travel for himself and/or first lady Diann T. Torres. The AG’s office also alleged one count of contempt for failure to appear in compliance with a subpoena.

The governor has denied the charges, and asked the court to dismiss them.
