Radio New Zealand International reports Neil Jones sustained a broken nose and a black eye.
He has filed an official complaint with the police and said that those involved are police employed at the Correctional Service Center in Port Vila.
Neil Jones believes his assailants are officers working in the main center because they made reference to the stories which appeared in Daily Post on the burning down of the former French jail Correctional Service Center.
He said his attackers claimed his journalists did not get their side of the story.
Superintendent John Taleo said police are investigating the incident, but Jones would need to help his men identify those involved in order to arrest them.
