DEV Bachani and Akiko Miller topped their respective divisions in the Fit to Lead 5K Tourism Month Fun Run on Saturday at the Garapan Fishing Base.
“I want to thank all of you, the sponsors and participants, for coming out,” Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said before the start of the race.
“It means a lot to all of us. It’s definitely been a journey and let’s not make this the last one. This is just the beginning,” he added.
From the Garapan Fishing Base, participants made their way through the turning point on Quartermaster Road before heading back.

Dev Bachani completed the 5K stretch with a time of 00:18:27.39 to clinch the overall title.
Bachani, however, had to fend off Keith Longuski. “For the first 30 seconds of the race, he [Longuski] was in front of me,” Bachani noted. “But I got the lead then kept it throughout the course.”
Longuski, who finished second, clocked 00:18:27.98 while Kosuke Sato was third at 00:19:00.51 and Cody Shimizu was fourth at 00:20:05.77.
The top four male finishers — Bachani, Longsuki, Sato and Shimizu — hit the turning point at 7 minutes and 30 seconds, and covered the first mile at 5 minutes and 5 seconds.
Women’s division
Akiko Miller was the top female runner with a time of 00:27:37.07.
In second place was Denise Myers, 00:20:38.72, while Kaithlyn Chavez came in third, 00:21:41.53.

459 runners participated in the 5K event, surpassing the 303 who finished the Saipan Marathon held last month.
