MICHAEL Mancao and Denise Myers overcame the “dark side” and topped their respective divisions of the 2nd CNMI Star Wars Day Run: May the 4th Be With You on Saturday at American Memorial Park.
With several participating iconic characters from galaxies far, far away, it seemed as if another Clone War was about to take place.
But as the proverbial dust settled, Michael Mancao was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 20:02.08.
The 5K race started at American Memorial Park and then headed to the Gov. Eloy S. Inos Peace Park before heading back to the starting point.
In second place in the men’s division was Peter Li with a finish time of 20:51.98 followed by Eason Tang who clocked 20:54.39.
Filling the remaining slots in the top 5 list were Rex Pixley (20:55.34), Enoch Zhuang (21:04.67), and David Zhao (21:05.21).
Women’s division
Denise Myers excelled in the female division and finished second overall with a time of 20:08.08.
Xu Eunice crossed the finish line at 24:01.94 and was followed by Evelyn Pangelinan who clocked 24:38.46.
There were over 200 participants in this year’s Star Wars Day Run.
Run Saipan President Edward Dela Cruz Jr. noted “the overwhelming support we had for this event.”
In March, 106 participated in CHCC and Run Saipan’s Happy Hearts Day 5K Fun Run.
In April, 120 joined JKPL and Run Saipan’s Literacy Fun Run/Walk.
“And now we smashed 200 with Saipan’s only official and annual cosplay event of the year,” Dela Cruz said.
“I thank our runners and community members that came out to celebrate Star Wars Day weekend with us. All credit and kudos go to Jedi Master Ron Snyder for moving heaven and earth to make this event happen from behind the scenes…. I thank all sponsors and organizations that helped make this happen as well as our Run Saipan volunteer race staff and the Grace Christian Academy National Honor Society.”
