Remote Saipan area to have $12M road

The construction of Route 36 is still on the planning stage, according to Department of Public Lands and Natural Resources’ assistant to the secretary, Henry Hofschneider. but it will one of the priority projects that the administration is working on.

The proposed Route 36 is federally funded and will be constructed in Talafofo to connect Kingfisher Golf Links to Bird Island in Marpi, located northeast of Saipan.

Currently, the only accessible road to Bird Island is  Middle Road.

Route 36, which will be approximately three miles long, will be a shortcut to Marpi if one is coming from Capital Hill.

Department of Public Works Secretary Diego Songsong said the project will cost $12 million.

Hofschneider said  DLNR is assisting DPW in the environmental aspects of the planning stage.
