GCA holds 2009 Math Olympiad

After a tight competition, five winners emerged from the first to the fifth grade levels.

Arvin Dayao emerged as the winner for the first grade; Marcelo Masilungan Jr. for the second grade; Peter Luis Camacho for the third grade; Francis Joseph Dalusung for the fourth grade; and Samuel Seo for the fifth grade.

The Math Olympiad, according to coordinator Susan S. Pajarillaga is a yearly school-wide competition for elementary school students aimed at encouraging students to think critically through problem solving.

“The math Olympiad also encourages the students to apply the basic skills they learn in word problems and to motivate them to love Mathematics,” Pajarillaga said.

She said the students in each grade level are given an elimination test to qualify for the competition, and the top five students in each grade level competes for the first place to receive the trophy given at the end of the school year.

“I would like to congratulate all the participants and to the parents for their untiring support and partnership in bringing the best in their child’s education,” Pajarillaga said.
