Rep. Victor B. Hocog said he appreciated the gesture of Villagomez because initially the lt. governor indicated that he might veto House Bill 16-215, which appropriate funds for the project.
The bill allots $40,000 of the available and unencumbered money remaining from Public Law 15-104.
Hocog, Ind.-Rota, authored the bill.
There’s an immediate need to proceed with the revetment repair because the delay will adversely affect the infrastructure,” he told Variety.
Hocog said P.L. 15-104 appropriated $800,000 earned under the $60 million CIP bond for the Rota International Airport.
He said these funds were used to purchase collateral equipment necessary to service jet aircraft at the airport terminal building, and to handle the passenger capacity of commercial jet aircraft capable of international flights to Rota.
According to Hocog, $320,464 has not been appropriated and is available for future allocations.
DPW has informed Hocog and other Rota lawmakers that the cost of the revetment repair project will be shared with the Federal Emergency Management Administration in a 90 percent- 10 percent ratio.
FEMA has allotted $326,700 while the commonwealth’s matching share is $32,670, he said.
