FRANCISCO M. Sablan Middle School on Monday promoted 95 eighth graders while Chacha Oceanview Middle School promoted 85 on Tuesday.
FMS’ promotion theme was “Ride the Waves and Navigate to a New Beginning”; Chacha’s was “Difficult Roads Lead to Beautiful Destinations.”
At FMS, Principal Cherlyn Osung and Vice Principal Carla Sablan led the school community in celebrating the promotion of the 95 eighth graders.
Aubrey June Tabenas is this year’s class valedictorian and the recipient of the Board of Education Award which was presented to her by BOE Chairman Gregory Pat Borja, Vice Chairman Antonio L. Borja and Secretary/Treasurer Maisie B. Tenorio.
In addition, Tabenas received a subject award for English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Project Lead The Way.
The class salutatorian was Chenille Rys Sabangan who received the Commissioner of Education Award from Education Commissioner Dr. Alfred Ada and Associate Commissioner Eric Magofna.
Sabangan is also the subject awardee for Math & Chamorro Carolinian Language and Heritage Studies-Carolinian.
The recipient of the Napu Spirit Award was Heman Addy; the Leadership Award went to Noreen Malakai; and the Middle School Leadership Corps awardee is Kaylene Deleon Guerrero.
The other subject awardees are:
• Amiah Benavente, Chamorro Carolinian Language and Heritage Studies-Chamorro Award;
• Christel Ann Aninzo, Leadership Corps & Computer;
• Aubrey Tabenas & Daverish Alqueza, Performing Arts; and
• Aubrey Tabenas & Joannah Lynn Concillado, Physical Education.
Chacha’s top awardees
Chacha Oceanview Middle School’s promotion ceremony was held at the Pacific Islands Club with Principal Martha Kintol and Vice Principal Le’ah Murphy on hand to congratulate the newly promoted eighth graders.
The class valedictorian and recipient of the Board of Education Award was Jarrod Raychesko Chong Muna while the class salutatorian and recipient of the Commissioner of Education Award was Jayden Jean Kawaii Pangelinan.
Kimora Jo Quitugua received the Principal’s Award while the Leadership awardee is Brandon James Seman Sablan.
The subject awards went to:
• Logan Elijah Lizama Tudela — English Language Arts;
• Jayne Cierra Faisao, Erili Mae Masga Trinidad, Nayari Darlene Manglona Maratita, and Jarrod Raychesko Chong Muna — Physical Education Award;
• Erili Mae Masga Trinidad — Computer Application;
• Jayden Jean Kawaii Pangelinan and Kimora Jo Quitugua — Social Studies;
• Jayden Jean Kawaii Pangelinan — Chamorro Carolinian Language and Heritage Studies;
• Tiana Lia Hamilton Aldan — Leadership Corps; and
• Jarrod Raychesko Chong Muna — Math, Science, Business Math and Woodshop.
Career options
BOE Chairman Gregory Pat Borja, in his remarks, told the promoted students that as freshmen high school students in the next school year, they will be presented with various career options.
“You will get the opportunity to explore which path you wish to take you into the future,” he added.
“I hope that you take the chances provided to you, to expose yourselves to the many career options made available through your respective schools. Work hard to accomplish your goals,” he added.
Commissioner of Education Dr. Alfred Ada said the eighth graders have been promoted “at a time in history when our world is still battling, yet slowly healing from, a pandemic.”
However, he also noted that “the opportunities created by such a challenge have never been greater.”
“In the past years,” he said, “you have survived typhoons, a pandemic, and many learning challenges. You did not give up. Instead, you embraced the challenges and became resilient…. Although we celebrate what you have accomplished today, I want to challenge you to continue learning, growing, and rising above hardships.”
