Teen who threw stones at police officer ordered to post $6K bail

Jaswin Peter, 18, was charged with assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.

He appeared in court for yesterday’s bail hearing  with Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke while chief prosecutor Kevin A. Lynch represented the commonwealth.

Govendo set the preliminary hearing for Feb. 11 at 9 a.m., and the arraignment for Feb. 17.

Detective Simon T. Manacop, in his affidavit stated that a disturbance was reported at David Store in Koblerville at around 1:01 a.m. on Feb. 2.

Responding Police Officer Tarimai Yangetmai said that when he arrived at the scene, the victim, Zhen Cai, pointed at two males and said one of them punched him on the face.

When Yangetmai drove behind the two males, one of them, later identified as Peter, ran away.

 He said  Peter came back with two fist-sized rocks.

Yangetmai said they ordered the defendant to put the rocks down but he ran away.

While he was being chased, he defendant stopped a couple of yards away and taunted Yangetmai to chase him further.

The defendant then threw the two rocks at the police office who had to dodge to avoid being hit.

The defendant was later arrested by other police officers.
