MVA eyes direct Japan-Saipan flights

“IT is important that we first secure direct flights from Japan to Saipan,” Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Priscilla M. Iakopo said when asked about the update on the Tourism Resumption Investment Plan or TRIP for Japan.

“We have issued [a request for proposals] for an airline incentive program. This investment will show Marianas’ commitment to the Japan market,” she added.

MVA is hoping that the Japan- Saipan flight service will resume in June or July.

As for the MVA Korean office’s statement that there will be a decrease in flight bookings to the CNMI in June and July, Iakopo said:

“To clarify, the only reason why our [CNMI] bookings for June and July are lower than Guam is because Guam has a higher seat supply.

“But it does not necessarily mean our projected arrivals will be lower than the previous months,” she added.
