RP fishing company says Palau’s tuna tax is hefty

A report from the Radio New Zealand said that during a meeting in General Santos City, Philippines between fishing companies in Palau and Philippines.

The report said that Palau has told the Filipino operators that they are imposing heavy tax on Palau collects an export tax of 35 US cents per kilogram on tuna and tuna-like species regardless of the quality of the stocks.The report stated that Domingo Teng, the owner of TSP Marine Industries,  “ that it’s quite a significant tax and will be difficult to work at that rate.”Teng stated that with the price of tuna in the international market at 1,000 dollars per ton and then you have to take 35 US cents a kilogram for tax, that’s a heavy burden.Kuniwo Nakamura, former Palau President attended the meeting.
