Music refreshes PSS teachers

Judy Domeny Bowen a teacher from Missouri who happens to be a recording artist, too, was on the island for the first time to provide local teachers “therapy.”

During the session in the Royal Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort, Bowen sang and played guitar to help educators bring out their creativity.

Professional development specialist Coreen C. Palacios said it was the second and final workshop for t school year 2008-2009.

The participants were from junior high and high schools and the theme was “Students First.”

Education Commissioner Rita Sablan said it was an excellent professional development.

All the presenters made the teachers laugh and reflect on their careers and the realities they encounter everyday at schools and in the community, she said.

The teachers, she added, also had the chance to share their ideas.

Bowen’s music and humorous motivational presentation highlighted the event.

Dr. Colleen Hardy, associate professor of education of Evangel University in Missouri, made a presentation regarding current research on brain and learning.

The third presenter was Lisa Kisling, who is also an educator from Missouri.
