Joint Forces Field Training Exercise set for June 5 to 13 on Saipan, Tinian

(Press Release) —  The Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs is informing the public of the upcoming Joint Forces Field Training Exercise 2022, scheduled from June 5 to  13, 2022.

This year’s exercise activities will occur on Saipan and Tinian. Joint Forces participants include the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, U.S. Marines Corps., and the U.S. Air Force with 300 personnel expected to be on Tinian and 120 personnel on Saipan.

Saipan training exercise

The USAF will conduct airlift and refueling operations at the Saipan international airport while the U.S. Army 1st Special Forces Group will conduct maritime base training on watercraft vessels and dive operations in the Saipan port and surrounding waters.

The Naval Surface Warfare Center or NSWC Detachment will be conducting land based command and control activities with Tactical Military Vehicles, which include four oversize semi-trucks with simulated 55’ Green High Vehicle Target or HVT onboard a flatbed system platform.

In coordination with the Department of Public Safety, convoy operations will commence from June 5 to 13, 2022, with DPS escort support while the HVTs are traveling on public roads. The HVTs are not live missiles but are replica models made of tin sheets. This exercise activity is limited to communication testing operation.

Members of the public are advised not to be alarmed. The HVTs are only simulations acting as opposing forces. This piece of the training activities is intended to refine defense communication capabilities.

Static displays of the HVTs will be on Saturday, June 4, 2022, to provide an opportunity for members of the public to learn about HVT capabilities and the NSWC’s naval technologies in support of naval surface fleet with integration, testing, evaluation, and life-cycle engineering support.

For more information on the static display event, please contact the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs at (670) 483-3278, or by email at glenna.sakisat.palacios@gov.mp

Tinian training exercise

The joint forces training exercises on Tinian will involve maritime operations at Tinian Harbor, logistical hub staging activities at the San Jose Port, refueling supply point operation at the Tinian West Field while cargo airdrop delivery systems will occur on North Tinian Drop Zone.

The joint forces field training exercises on Saipan and Tinian are coordinated in advance with the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs, the Commonwealth Ports Authority, the Department of Public Safety, other CNMI agencies, and the Tinian Mayor’s Office. The Naval Facilities Pacific Engineering Command and Joint Region Marianas regional environmental coordinator are coordinating with the CNMI for full enforcement of biosecurity measures on both islands.

The expeditionary training activities are focused on maritime and littoral security in the Pacific region. This year’s exercises incorporate joint aviation, maritime, and multi-domain activities in an austere and distributed environment.
