Ex-Agriculture chief Flores to run for Saipan mayor

In an interview yesterday, Flores said he has already submitted his letter of intent to the GOP.

The deadline for submission was last Friday and nobody else submitted a letter.

Flores said if elected in November, he would enhance Saipan villages so they can become tourist destinations, too.

In this undertaking, the mayor’s office should work closely with the members of the community, he said.

He said destination enhancement is a “win-win” for the commonwealth.

It will help acquaint tourists with local culture while making the community a better place to live in, he added.

Flores said tour agents should support this idea.

“We should find new tourist attractions and create a new Saipan,” adding that a clean village is a clean and healthy Saipan.

The island can also become a tourist destination for sporting events, Flores said.

He added that the mayor’s office should partner with the community in improving sports facilities in the villages.

Instead of relying too much on government resources, people can assist the government in coming up with good ideas and making them happen, Flores said.

Besides Flores, former Corrections Commissioner Lino Tenorio, former Rep. Candido B. Taman and former Agriculture Director John C. Reyes are also running for Saipan mayor.
