San Vicente Elementary School principal Joaquina DLG. Salas said she was impressed with the parents’ dedication.
On Monday night, the eight parents received their certificates of achievement for completing the eight-week Motheread/Fatheread literacy program sponsored by the NMI Council for the Humanities in partnership with the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and the Public School System.
Viola S. Deleon Guerrero, CNMI Motheread/Fatheread literary program coordinator, said the enthusiasm of the parents was “very encouraging.”
She said the “word of mouth” from the participants will entice more parents to join the program.
Bryan E. Manabat, assistant coordinator, said the program helps parents to get more involved in the development of their children’s ability to communicate.
He said the program teaches parents how to use stories to help their children improve their academic skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and comprehension.
Mary Jane G. Limes, a certified parent trainer, acknowledged the sacrifices of the parents in their efforts to make their children better persons.
Limes said the program will allow families to bond together and uphold good values.
The parents who finished the course were Liza Leebrug, Hyunza Lee, Dhalian Salas, Noemi Borromeo, Ma. Christina Pecson, Manny Bernal, Danny Pacala and Maiden Pacala.
Manabat said the support of the CNMI Americorps volunteers and their site supervisor in San Vicente, Christina Yohanan, is also crucial to the program’s success.
