MBA will send 7 students to national forensic competition

Five of the MBA students participated in the forensic competition at Marianas High School from March 12 to 14, winning gold and silver medals.

The gold  medal winners are Jessica Im Lee in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate; Frank Yeung, U.S. extemporaneous speaking and commentary; Dencio Manglona, foreign extemporaneous; Mark Anthony Liban, original oratory; and Jess Sablan, impromptu.

David Kim and Maria Cabrera won silver medals in humorous interpretation and commentary.

Calvary Christian Academy’s Genesis Ranjo won the expository competition; Marianas High School’s Joseph Martin, story telling; Grace Christian Academy’s Bianca Blanco and Oilang Maui, duo interpretation; Mount Carmel School’s Hazel Marie Doctor, prose; John Edward Elenzano, poetry; and Ryan Ortizo, dramatic interpretation.

Mark Anthony Liban, a two-time participant in the National Junior Forensic League, said he expects to compete against talented students.

Liban, who is in ninth grade said, “I will trust in God while doing my best.”     

Jessica Lee who won junior forensic competitions in Kentucky last year and in Colorado in 2007 said she  expects to face a tough competition this June, “but I’m going to do my best.”

Lee said it takes a lot of research to win.

Lorna Liban, their coach, said she is bringing all the glory to God for all of MBA’s successes in student competitions.

MBA principal Ramiro Trinidad, for his part, said they advised their students to hard work, pray, rest and maintain grace under pressure.
