2022 JKPL’S Summer Reading Program registration begins May 24

(JKPL) — Readers of all ages from early literacy, children, teens, and adults on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are invited to explore your library this summer as the Joeten- Kiyu Public Library presents “Oceans of Possibilities” during the 2022 Summer Reading Program. Activities consists of books, STEAM activities, reading logs, writing activities, and more!

This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities,” and JKPL will provide a free summer reading program for early literacy, children, teens, and adults at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library.

Moreover, JKPL will have the Bookmobile and the Technology Mobile Express, which will conduct weekly summer reading program outreach activities to the most underserved communities on Saipan.

“We will conduct in person activities, special guest presentations from community partners, computer classes, and so much more! To add to the fun and to create a sense of challenge that will keep kids reading and enjoy the summer reading program, we provide fun prizes at various times during the summer. We will include prizes for children who submit their completed activities and who graduate from the onsite summer program; grand prizes for most books read!”

The 2022 Summer Reading Program is open to the first 50 registered participants for ages 6-8 years old for the morning session and 50 registered participants for 9-12 years old for the afternoon session.

All programs are free of charge, including reading challenges for MOST books read!

Registration for “Oceans of Possibilities” begins on May 24, 2022 to May 28, 2022 ongoing until filled.

A valid Joeten- Kiyu Public Library-CNMI State Library card is required.

The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is offering its annual free summer library program to early literacy, children, teens, and adults in the CNMI to encourage everyone to read for  pleasure during the summer and to retain their reading skills.

During the summer, children and teens who aren’t reading or participating in other learning activities can lose up to two months of academic skills achieved during the school year.

Participating in the Summer Reading program can help students avoid the “summer slide.”

Additionally, children who see their parents and other adults in their lives reading tend to read more and build healthy reading habits.

Effective, June 7, 2022, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library summer hours are as follows: June 7, 2022 to August 7, 2022, Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Closed Sundays, Mondays, and holidays.
