Dandan school receives $1,000 gift from first lady

DES principal Jonas Barcinas told Variety that the first lady also gave  Kagman Elementary School $1,000 for contributing to the success of the celebration.

“The gift will certainly help our school in so many ways,” Barcinas said.

He added that the participating students and adults also received gifts from Mrs. Fitial.

“The money will be used for some instructional supplies to address the needs of the students and staff,” Barcinas said.

Part of the money could also be given to students who participated in the Christmas program.

Barcinas said DES won the Christmas lighting competition held at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport last year.

The competition was hosted by the first lady, in partnership with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and the business community.

“I owe it all to the hard work and joint efforts of my students and the staff — that allowed us to win,” Barcinas said.

On behalf of DES, he  extends his appreciation to the First Lady’s Foundation and her committee for the financial support provided to the schools.
