(SCC) — The Saipan Chamber of Commerce warmly welcomed the return of the USS Shoup (DDG 86) to Saipan. The ship last visited in 2023, and both the Chamber and the community were excited to once again host its crew.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, the USS Shoup graciously opened its doors for a special tour, welcoming members of the SCC Armed Forces Committee, Chamber staff and interns, and members of the community aboard the vessel. The experience provided a meaningful opportunity for students and residents alike to learn more about the U.S. Navy and its mission.
Continuing the spirit of friendship, the SCC, in partnership with VFW Post 3457, hosted a plaque exchange on Wednesday, Aug. 20 to show appreciation for the USS Shoup’s visit and to honor the growing connection between the Navy and the people of Saipan.
USS Shoup’s visit underscores the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong relationships between the community and the armed forces. In addition to community engagement, such visits contribute to the local economy, as the crew and guests support Saipan’s businesses and services during their stay.
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce extends its sincere gratitude to the USS Shoup and looks forward to welcoming them and other U.S. Navy vessels back to Saipan in the future.
