Fitial accepts McPhetres’ resignation

McPhetres, who had previously considered resignation from the NMC board, on Monday decided to tender her resignation letter to Fitial after careful consideration.

Previously, McPhetres met with  Fitial about resigning from the board, but did not actually deliver a resignation letter to the governor.

The board, however, secured a copy and considered it her resignation letter.

“With this delivered letter, the question of Ms. McPhetres’ status with the board has now been clearly resolved,” said Fitial. “I respect her decision and I believe she made this decision with the best interests of the college in mind.”

McPhetres’ resignation letter, which was dated March 6, 2009, was only stamped and received by the governor’s office on March 23, 2009.

In her resignation letter, McPhetres thanked Fitial for the confidence he placed in her when he appointed her to the NMC board of regents.

“I want to personally thank you and your administration for providing financial resources and other support to the college so that it can maintain its accreditation,” wrote McPhetres.

Fitial said he appointed McPhetres because of her deep institutional knowledge and experience with NMC.

McPhetres previously served as president of the college.
