Tourism Fiji banks on ‘Kevin’ holidays

Tourism Fiji chairman Patrick Wong hopes that Australian tourists will make the most of Fiji’s tourist destinations with the bonuses given by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

The Australian government is giving $900 bonuses to its people with first wave of $900 bonuses began hitting bank accounts this week.

“The Australian dollar is well placed against the Fiji dollar,” Wong said.

He said they had great value packages in the market which were very competitive with their South East Asia rivals and Pacific Island neighbors.

“We should benefit from this, a lot of students travel in groups,” he said.

Wong said with their aggressive campaign and best packages available, they expected to see the number of bookings rise in a couple of months.

The Australian has reported that tourist destinations such as Bali, Fiji and Vietnam were set to benefit from the federal Government’s stimulus package, as students queue up to have a “holiday on Kevin.”
