Willie Brundidge said he will run as an Independent candidate for Precinct 5.
“I have lived in Saipan for a long time and I decided it’s time I give something back to the community” said Brundidge.
Originally from Alabama, Brundidge was assigned as a soldier on Guam.
After ending his military career, he decided to stay on Saipan and eventually established his own business.
Brundidge said he wants to run for public office to help his fellow Kagman residents.
“I have lived in Saipan for 16 years and in Kagman II for eight years. Every day, I look at the condition of our villages, and wonder, ‘Why aren’t the elected officials cleaning up the villages year-round, instead of waiting until the last few months left in office?’ Our roadways are long overdue for better repair measures. Kagman has some paved roads but many of them have small trees and tall grass taking over,” he said.
“Kagman residents living next to coral roadways have been breathing dust for years. Some motorists are driving too fast and with no regards for kids playing near the roadways. These drivers have no thought of safety whatsoever,” he added.
Precinct 5 has two House seats.
