Nick Sablan is SGA March Ace

NICK C. Sablan edged Joe Demapan in the scorecard playoff to clinch the Saipan Golf Association’s March Ace of the Month title on Sunday, March 27, at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

Sablan and  Demapan went head-to-head from start to finish, but there could only be one March ace.

Sablan started well as he closed the front nine with a gross of 40. On the back nine, he improved his precision to close the remaining nine holes with a score of 38 for a gross total of 78. With a handicap of 6, his net score was 72.

 Demapan shot a gross of 45 on the front nine and 46 on the back nine for a total  gross score of 91.  With a 19 handicap, his net score was 72, but in the scorecard playoff, Sablan had the better overall performance and was declared the tournament winner.

Finishing third was Alex Tudela. He had a decent output, scoring 41 on the front nine and 42 on the back  for a gross total of 83. With a handicap of 10, he secured a net score of 73.

In the optional play, Nick Sablan led the Closest to the Pin challenge on hole #6.  Bill Quitano ruled hole #12 while Jung Eun Taeck was supreme on hole #15.

Nick Sablan also bagged the Longest Drive Award on hole #9 while Jung Eun Taeck triumphed on hole #10.

Nick Sablan now joins Edward C. Sablan (January) and Frances M. Sablan (February) as SGA’s 2022 Aces of the Month.

As for the April Ace of the Month Tournament, it will be held on  April 24, 2022, Sunday, at Coral Ocean Resort with tee time of 11 a.m., and show time of 10:30 a.m.
