Event organizer Sharmane Casquero said this year’s Miss Diva Earth search is focused on the theme “Save the planet, care for the environment.”
The are contestants are Shakira, Bexong, Arrisa Flores, Diana Mendoza, Ruffa Gutierrez and Giselle Knowles.
Casquero said the highlight of the coronation night will be the presentation of fabulous gowns made from indigenous materials from the sea.
“The competition for the best in nature costume is highly anticipated because this gives the designers a chance to showcase the island’s best,” Casquero said.
“We would like to invite everybody to support us and witness the fantastic creations of our designers using recycled materials, inspired from materials from the sea,” Casquero said.
He added that the winning nature costume during the first Miss Earth Diva search in 2007 was patterned after shells and seaweeds.
The coronation night was originally slated for April 25 but Casquero said changes have to be made as the date conflicts with the Flame Tree Arts Festival.
Casquero said the designers also needed more time to prepare the contestant’s gowns.
The six contestants for Miss Earth Diva 2009 showcased their talents at the Hard Rock Café on Saturday night but the Best in Talent Award will be given during the coronation night.
Casquero said the proceeds from the Miss Earth Diva 2009 search will benefit Beautify CNMI.
He said the committee is focusing more on community services.
The Filipino Hairstylists Association of CNMI participated in the islandwide cleanup on April 17 with the Friends of the Marianas group from San Vicente Elementary School to the Botanical Garden.
Casquero said the Miss Earth Diva search is “a high level quality entertainment which instills the concept of beauty with oneself, the acceptance and celebration of the rights and qualities of modern day gays.”
“The search is a showcase of inner beauty, versatility and creativity,” Casquero added.
Up for grabs are various awards like Miss Earth Diva 2009, Miss Air Diva 2009, Miss Water Diva 2009 and Miss Fire Diva 2009.
The six contestants will be competing for Best in Nature Costume, Best in Talent, Best in Interview, Best in Swimsuit, Best in Evening Gown, Miss Congeniality, Miss Photogenic and Miss Press Choice.
Among the judges for the coronation night are Rep. Tina Sablan, Angelo Villagomez and Ernie Molina.
Tickets are $10 each which comes with one free drink at the Hard Rock Café Saipan. For ticket reservations or information, call Sharmane at 233-2643.
