APIA (Samoa Observer/Pacnews) — Samoa’s Ministry of Health has confirmed 1,154 new community cases over a period of four days, from April 12 to 16, 2022, as the total number of positive Covid-19 cases near the 6,000 mark.
Out of the 1,154 new community cases, 14 cases are in managed isolation with three critical cases at the Intensive Care Unit at the Moto’otua Hospital.
The 14 patients are in the isolation ward while three patients are in the ICU including a 14-month-old baby recently taken off the ventilator, still requiring close observation.
The new community cases bring the total of Covid-19 positive cases to 5,884 since community transmission detected on March 17, 2022.
While the total cumulative number of Covid-19 positive cases from border and community cases stands at 5,947.
The situational report was issued on Monday through the government’s Press Secretariat.
The Health Ministry also confirmed the two new Covid-19 related deaths within this reporting period occurred between the periods of April 13 and 14.
The deceased were identified as an 80-year-old female and an 86-year-old male.
“Out of respect for the families and relatives, we will not be making any further comments,” reads the report.
According to the report, the new Covid-19 positive cases in the last 96 hours were both conducted with PCR and Rapid antigen tests.
The report revealed that from April 12 to 13, 281 new cases were recorded.
From April 13 to 14, there were 341 new cases.
There were 273 new cases were recorded from April 14 to 15, whereas from April 15 to 16, there were 259 new cases.
The total number of Covid-19 positive cases admitted to TTM Hospital since community transmission on March 17, 2022 is 143 admissions.
In terms of border surveillance, the ministry added that a NZ990 flight that arrived on March 29, 2022 had recorded 15 positive cases which consisted of three positive cases and 12 historical cases. The three positive cases are being isolated at the Faleolo isolation site.
So far, a total of 43,442 RATs tests had been conducted as of April 16.
The public is again urged to get vaccinated as vaccination remains the best defense against Covid-19 pandemic.
“Keeping our families and loved ones safe is everyone’s responsibility.
“Please stay home and isolate if you are feeling unwell and practice safe personal hygiene at all times.
“All are required to wear face masks and keep to the 2-metre social distancing in public places,” the government said.
