These guest workers earlier registered with Labor’s employment services division, and were given 30 days to find employers willing to sign an employer intent form.
The 30-day period has expired.
Hearing officer Deanne C. Siemer, in an administrative order dated April 6, stated that upon reviewing the petitioners’ request, she finds that the petition states sufficient legal or equitable grounds for granting an extension of time.
The petitioners, however, were required to complete and submit a transfer cover sheet indicating that they may be required to pay for their repatriation and medical expenses.
Most of the workers who were at the administrative hearing office yesterday are former garment employees.
The order advises each guest worker to submit a completed employer form no later than June 5.
Elvira Nicolas, one of the guest workers who picked up her copy of the administrative order, said she has been working in the CNMI for 19 years. She is a former sewer.
