Solomons PM cautions region against swift action over Fiji

Sikua said the military regime’s abrogation of the constitution and the enforcement of emergency regulations have developed a new uncertainty and this requires a profound but prompt reflection by regional leaders.

The Forum earlier required Fiji to announce an election date for this year by May 1 and since the constitution was dumped the Forum chairman has called for more immediate action.

But Sikua said Forum leaders should meet at the earliest possible time to develop a firm, pragmatic and workable approach.

He said he was committed to the upholding of democracy and is actively working with all leaders in the region to develop the appropriate response to the current circumstances in Fiji.
